Amazon has unveiled its own AR glasses. These are designed to enhance the wearer's perception by adding visual aids. This includes the display of text, graphics and even photos, although there will be no direct overlay, such as the translation of text on a traffic sign with foreign characters. Amazon's AR glasses are unlikely to be aimed at vacationers or end users in general for the time being, but it is certainly conceivable that Amazon is investigating whether such technology could also be somehow incorporated into a product for end users.
The AR glasses are aimed at professional users, specifically Amazon delivery drivers. Demo videos show the glasses in action, where they are used to analyze a package that has been picked up and to confirm whether it is the correct package. This could, of course, simplify finding and picking up the correct packages. The videos also show how the glasses support drivers with real-time navigation instructions in the form of a map.
According to Amazon, a special delivery vest also includes controls for the glasses, and the use of a replaceable battery reportedly allow for a full day's battery life. A dedicated emergency button is included, and the AR glasses can also be equipped with corrective lenses, eliminating the need to wear them over prescription glasses or contact lenses.
