Along with the new 14-inch MacBook Pro and iPad Pro based on the brand-new Apple M5, the Cupertino-based tech behemoth has also announced a successor to the Vision Pro. The mixed-reality headset didn’t have much success thus far due to its very high price of $3,499, but the new model should improve upon the original in several key areas.
For instance, the Apple M5 promises significantly better performance as well as better efficiency, which increases the battery life to 2.5 hours. The higher performance allows Apple to run the headset's two micro-OLED displays at a 10% higher resolution for sharper visuals. Even more significant is that the new model's displays now have a refresh rate of 120Hz instead of 100 Hz of the first-gen Apple Vision Pro.
Apple still utilizes the proprietary R1 chip to process data from a total of twelve cameras, five sensors and six microphones, all of which allow users to control the Vision Pro via hand gestures. Apple puts a knitted fabric headband in the box this time, which is supposed to improve comfort. Users can also purchase the new headband separately and use it with the original Vision Pro. Otherwise, the headset's feature set remains unchanged.
