A scarecrow with a pumpkin head, spooky backdrops and classic PS2-style 3D platforming – Pumpkin Jack is perfect for getting into the Halloween spirit. It's currently 91% off on Steam for the first time.

Just in time for Halloween, Pumpkin Jack returns to spread fear and mischief. This 3D platformer stars a pumpkin-headed scarecrow doing the Devil’s bidding as he battles the forces of good. Jack runs, jumps and fights his way through haunted graveyards, eerie swamps and burning villages. At his side are a sharp-tongued owl and a feisty crow, offering guidance and assisting with ranged attacks.

Released in October 2020, Pumpkin Jack isn’t all that old, but it proudly embraces the spirit of classic PS2-era platformers – and that’s very much a compliment. As noted in a review by dlh.net, the game combines tight platforming with puzzle-solving and real-time combat against waves of monsters and towering bosses. To keep things fresh, certain segments let Jack detach from his body to tackle environmental puzzles or roll around as a pumpkin head to interact with the world.

According to dlh.net, Pumpkin Jack delivers a well-rounded and atmospheric Halloween experience. While it isn’t particularly challenging and can feel a bit repetitive at times, it remains a great pick for getting into the October spirit. The game is also relatively short, with the main story taking around 4.5 hours to complete, according to HowLongToBeat. The outlet gave it a solid score of 83%. On Metacritic, the reception is more mixed, with a Metascore of 71 and a User Score of 6.9. Steam players, however, are far more enthusiastic: 91% of over 8,000 reviews are positive.
