Fanatical is currently giving away Golden Light as a free game. This comedic horror roguelike typically costs $19.99 and is categorized as Steam Deck Playable. It has good player ratings as well.

Game reseller Fanatical is currently giving away a comedic horror title with roguelike elements, Golden Light. This currently free game generally goes for $19.99 when there's no sale in place, but it can be grabbed from Fanatical for $0. However, note that there are regional restrictions, and the platform won't allow claiming the freebie if you're in a restricted region.

As for the game itself, Golden Light is a first-person title that's set in an eerie world called The Gut, which is filled with floors. One interesting aspect of this currently free game is that each floor is procedurally generated, making the entire experience somewhat unique from what other players will experience.

Each floor also features hostile, meat-like monsters, and these enemies disguise themselves as every object. For example, they can appear disguised as a computer or a vending machine.

While this disguising aspect may seem comedic, the game encourages cautious gameplay. Unnecessary fights can agitate The Gut, which will eventually increase the difficulty.

This currently free game is also praised for its unsettling visual style, putting players in an atmosphere that's reminiscent of Silent Hill games. The sound design is also said to heighten the level of fear and tension during the gameplay.

Golden Light currently has a "Very Positive" rating on Steam that's based on around 2,000 player reviews, and it has proper controller support (8bitDo Ultimate 2C curr. $25.99 on Amazon). The title also comes with the Steam Deck Playable compatibility tag. While all that sounds great, some players found that the controls are a bit clunky. The procedural levels have also received some criticism. They can sometimes introduce confusing elements that disrupt the smooth gameplay flow. Check out the video below to learn more about the game.
