Capcom has announced an unexpected new addition to its Resident Evil IP. The upcoming title is a mobile game for iOS and Android titled Resident Evil: Survival Unit. The mobile game pivots from the traditional Resident Evil formula and embraces the RTS genre.
The Resident Evil-themed real-time strategy mobile spin-off is being developed in close collaboration with Capcom to “ensure authenticity and quality”. Capcom is working with Korean mobile developer Joycity Corporation, known for Pirates of the Caribbean: Tides of War, and Sony's anime subsidiary, Aniplex.
While much information about the game is still under wraps, the developers assure that Resident Evil Survival Unit will “appeal to both longtime fans and new players.” The game has been greenlit for a global release in North America, Europe, Asia, Japan, and South Korea. However, an exact release date is yet to be announced.
More details about Resident Evil: Survival Unit will be revealed online on YouTube on July 10th, 6 PM EDT. For now, a single piece of artwork has been shared, giving us a subtle hint that the spin-off is linked to the defunct Umbrella Corporation from the Resident Evil Universe. This suggests that the game takes place sometime before the events of Resident Evil 1 and the Raccoon City trials of 2003.
The main franchise takes players back to Raccoon City in Resident Evil 9: Requiem. Resident Evil Requiem takes place 30 years after the events of Resident Evil 2 and follows a new protagonist, Grace Ashcroft, back to the ruins of Raccoon City.
Resident Evil Requiem will be released on the Xbox Series S|X, PlayStation 5, and PC on February 27, 2026. The game has been wishlisted by 1 million players across all platforms and continues to garner widespread attention following the success of Resident Evil Village and Resident Evil 4 Remake.
