Gamers are suddenly enjoying a flurry of Nintendo Direct events. A new Super Mario Galaxy Movie trailer debuted at a January 25th broadcast, confirming Yoshi as a character. Meanwhile, a Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream feature will air on January 29th. However, both shows may be a prelude to a larger general Nintendo Direct that fans have been anticipating.
In a new podcast, NateTheHate2 revealed that another Nintendo Direct is set for the first week of February. While he can’t pinpoint an exact date, Thursday, February 5th, may be the most likely target. Sadly, the leaker doesn’t know which Switch 2 games would be featured during the stream. With a busy 2026 expected for Nintendo, the possibilities are nearly endless.
The insider speculated that the event could include “brand new first-party games coming out in 2026.” However, a Partner Showcase is another scenario in which third-party Switch 2 games take center stage. In either case, the Japanese gaming giant wouldn’t be lacking options.
Nintendo Direct possibilities
Most likely, the next Nintendo Direct will provide updates on already announced titles. Mario Tennis Fever arrives on February 12th, but players recently saw a new gameplay trailer. On its heels, the cozy life simulator Pokémon Pokopia will ship on March 5th. Viewers could also learn exact release dates for Yoshi and the Mysterious Book and Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave.
Despite an active upcoming year for Nintendo, some observers note the lack of a system seller. Many fans are hoping to see the first signs of a new 3D Mario or mainline Zelda game. Former Nintendo marketers Kit & Krysta suggested that an immersive Mario adventure could follow the Super Mario Galaxy Movie.
If the company chooses to highlight growing third-party support, fresh Resident Evil Requiem footage might make sense. During the podcast, NateTheHate2 also revealed several major Switch 2 games and ports in development. Among them are Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and Final Fantasy 16, but he couldn’t promise they would be part of the Direct.
