Prominent leaker NateTheHate2 has said repeatedly that Red Dead Redemption 2 Enhanced is in development. When rumors surfaced in 2025, speculation was that PS5 and Xbox updates could arrive by the end of the year. If insider Reece “Kiwi Talkz” Reilly is correct, the GTA 6 release date may happen before they are ready.
On social media, Kiwi Talkz tried to alleviate fears over a cancellation. He insisted that the project exists and that he knew of eight developers who worked on it. However, release windows for the publisher are difficult to predict.
Later, Reilly expanded on a theory that the GTA 6 release date delay is a factor. He predicts that the company now plans to use most of 2026 to build anticipation for its Vice City crime saga. As a result, it doesn’t want Red Dead Redemption 2 Enhanced to overshadow its marketing. Also, the free upgrade for its predecessor is still fresh, appearing in early December 2025.
Why is a RDR2 makeover so anticipated?
Similar to the recent Red Dead Redemption patch for multiple consoles, the RDR2 update would offer improved graphics. Currently, the PS5 and Xbox Series X ports are limited to 30fps and rely on backward compatibility. Blurry textures and laggy controls are other common observations. Meanwhile, the Rockstar Games title is not available at all on the Switch or Switch 2.
Not surprisingly, console gamers reacted negatively to the latest report. Redditor SaberDevil2021 complained, “I know game development takes an insane amount of time now, but like, it took late 2027 for an upgrade to an 8-year-old game!?” Another poster noted that an unofficial Red Dead Redemption 2 mod is available that can boost visuals to 1440p/60fps on the PS5.
Rockstar is likely planning more dramatic RDR2 enhancements than a fan-made effort could deliver. At the moment, it may also be putting all its efforts into avoiding the GTA 6 release date delay.
