Rumors have hinted that a modernized edition of Red Dead Redemption 2 was in development. Rare changes on its Steam store page may indicate that Rockstar Games is close to an announcement. Like GTA V 5 Enhanced, the updated Red Dead Redemption 2 is likely to provide graphical upgrades for PCs and consoles.
Besk on social media posted a changelog of the Steam listing, which includes an altered description, assets, and subtitles. None of the modifications refer to Red Dead Redemption 2 Enhanced. Still, Rockstar Games news source Videotech believes the update is more than coincidental. He notes that the Steam listing has remained untouched since 2019.
Gamers have long anticipated a next-gen version of the 2018 open-world action-adventure title. Earlier in 2025, NateTheHate raised expectations for a PS5 and Xbox release before the end of the year. The prominent leaker also expects a Switch 2 version that takes advantage of the handheld’s boosted capabilities.
More evidence pointing to Red Dead Redemption 2 Enhanced surfaced on the Red Dead Online support page during the Summer. It briefly mentioned “online migration” issues, which plagued players transitioning to GTA 5 Enhanced.
What Red Dead Redemption 2 Enhanced could offer
Most fans assume that an improved version will have the most benefits for console players. PS5 and Xbox Series X owners, who run PS4/Xbox One X versions, are currently limited to 30 fps visuals. Along with a 60 fps mode, gamers may have the option for ray-traced lighting and other upgrades.
It’s unclear what advantages a Red Dead Redemption 2 Enhanced Steam version would bring. With sufficient hardware, the title’s visual quality rivals more recent titles. Besides adding ray-tracing, Rockstar may need to boost the game’s multiplayer offerings to tempt players. Despite numerous technical improvements in GTA 5 Enhanced, many PC gamers elected to return to the legacy version.
