Fans have been lauding over the latest trailer for GTA 6 as it has garnered close to 500 million views across platforms since release on May 6 (at the time of writing). Not only did it show off the graphical improvements compared to the previous game, there were quite a lot of details that fans have been discovering by dissecting every frame. One of the details was the currency shown in the game which suggests that GTA 6 may be in the same universe as Red Dead Redemption.
Rockstar has generally kept its two major franchises, Grant Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption, separate with a few cross franchise easter eggs sprinkled here and there. In the new trailer, however, fans have spotted that the money used in GTA 6 has faces of President Hardin and president Thaddeus Waxman from the Red Dead Redemption franchise on it, suggesting that the two games share a universe.
Could there be more links between the two games? We’ll have to wait and find out. Fans are excited about this idea are coming up with theories of Jason, the protagonist from GTA 6, to be somehow related to Arthur Morgan, the protagonist from Red Dead Redemption 2.
GTA 6 was originally scheduled for a fall 2025 release but Rockstar recently announced that it has been pushed back to May 26, 2026. The developer wants to spend more time refining the game, which shows a lot of promise from the recent trailer that was captured on PS5. The game is set to launch on the PS5 and Xbox Series consoles first, and likely a year later on PC.
Even though fans were disappointed by the delay, the new trailer was a welcome surprise. According to a report by The Hollywood Reporter, Rockstar shared that the trailer received over 475 million views across various platforms. On YouTube, it is currently sitting at close to 87 million views. It has become the biggest video launch of all time, according to Rockstar.
