Stardew Valley first launched in 2016, making it nearly a decade old. Since then, developer Eric Barone – better known as ConcernedApe – has kept the charming pixelated farming sim alive with a steady stream of updates, adding features like multiplayer, new areas, and events such as the “Green Rain.” Still, fans have grown increasingly eager for a sequel – and now, there’s finally something to hold onto. For the first time, Barone has spoken directly about the possibility of Stardew Valley 2. In the May 5, 2025 episode of the TigerBelly podcast (starting at minute 43), he suggests a sequel could happen, though nothing is set in stone.
No confirmation – but the door is open
Despite the hint in the podcast, Barone makes it clear that there are no concrete plans for Stardew Valley 2. A sequel isn’t officially in development, but for the first time, it feels within reach. As always, ConcernedApe is keeping his options open. For instance, after the release of the 1.5 update, he intended to focus entirely on Haunted Chocolatier – but instead, he went on to develop update 1.6, pushing his new project further down the line.
Future updates to Stardew Valley could still arrive unexpectedly, as Barone has shown a pattern of releasing new content without much prior notice. Meanwhile, Haunted Chocolatier remains in development, with a release planned within the next five years. Barone is also keen to avoid being defined solely by Stardew Valley 2. If he does decide to pursue a sequel, it’s likely still a long way off.
