If you have ever wondered what it would look like if Red Dead Redemption 2 had Mortal Kombat style combat with fatalities, wonder no more. A modder recently showed off exactly that after a viewer’s suggestion and it’s hilarious. Not only does the camera switch to the Mortal Kombat orientation, the UI elements on screen appear and actually work.
The mod was shared by Blurbs during a recent stream and he’s the same modder who gave NPCs in Red Dead Redemption 2 unique memories. This new mod, however, incorporates the style of another popular franchise. The Mortal Kombat style fight system gets triggered whenever Arthur punches an NPC. The camera changes to a 1v1 fighting game perspective with a dynamic health bar at the top.
Blurbs also added the famous audio queues from the Mortal Kombat franchise, as well as a special move and a fatality. Arthur’s cough (from TB) is a poisonous attack, which becomes his special ability. As for the fatality, Blurbs coded it so that when the fatality is triggered, a train comes into frame mowing down the opponent. It took a few attempts to place and time everything correctly, but it all worked out in the end, and quite well.
Of course, since its Mortal Kombat, the blood and brutality levels were turned up quite a bit. That being said, check out the mod in action in the video below, starting at the 10-minute mark.
