The Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection is causing feelings of frustration more than nostalgia. Input lag is one reason why players are requesting PlayStation Store refunds. The classic Mortal Kombat games suffer from high latency, audio snafus, and dysfunctional matchmaking.

Sony’s marketplace is not in the habit of giving refunds for played games. Still, the PlayStation Store is making exceptions for the Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection. Several gamers have successfully received credits after contacting PS Store support. Among the complaints are high latency, which is especially a problem on the PS5.

The Digital Eclipse release includes several versions of the first Mortal Kombat games. However, the transition from arcades to PCs and consoles hasn’t been flawless. Latency is always a concern in fighting games since split-second reactions often decide matches.

Input lag tester Nigel Woodall examined PC, Switch 2, Xbox, PS4, and PS5 versions. PlayStation systems ranked last on the list, with a result of over 108 milliseconds. The PC port is the quickest to react, checking in with a latency of 22.05 milliseconds. Woodall didn’t notice much variation between the different titles within the Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection.

Other issues plaguing the Legacy Kollection

The compilation employs both custom emulators and existing programs. This approach may introduce added latency. Even so, it’s unclear why the PS4 and PS5 versions exhibit significantly more lag. Regardless, input delays aren’t the only issues fans of the retro fighters are facing. Audio glitches and simplistic multiplayer features have also contributed to mixed Steam reviews.

To improve the customer experience, the PlayStation Store has introduced recent changes. Within 14 days of a purchase, gamers can now request automated refunds on the PlayStation site or app. Normally, downloading a game invalidates a request, which makes the Legacy Kollection situation so unusual. Yet, many posters, like Natural_Parsnip_5291, have shared success stories on Reddit.

Stephen Frost of Digital Eclipse has kept gamers informed about patch efforts on social media. His most recent update explains that new fixes could be released later on November 4th. One of the priorities for the developers is the slow responses to button presses.
