Sony has just announced FlexStrike as the official name for its recently announced fight stick controller. Built for arcade-style fighting games for PlayStation 5 and PC, FlexStrike features a joystick, mechanical switch buttons and ultra-low latency via the PlayStation Link wireless adapter.

Last month, Sony announced plans for an upcoming wireless fight stick controller under the internal codename Project Defiant. Now, we have an official name, FlexStrike, along with some other details, but nothing very specific related to the launch date, which will be sometime in 2026.

To recap, FlexStrike offers an arcade-style control surface with a joystick and eight DualSense buttons that use mechanical switches for extra durability, as well as a touchpad. Sony promises ultra-low latency wireless performance using a PlayStation Link USB adapter, with an option for a wired USB-C connection as well. It also comes with a protective sling carry case.

From this latest announcement, we now learn that on PlayStation 5 (available on Amazon), you can connect two FlexStrike controllers using a single PlayStation Link adapter, or one FlexStrike and one Link-supported audio device, like the Pulse Elite headset or the Pulse Explore earbuds. The FlexStrike can also be used in conjunction with a DualSense controller for navigating menus, etc.

The base of the device is covered with a non-slip rubber mat. Peel that off, and you get the option to swap out restrictor gates, which restrict the travel of the joystick. Three gates—circular, square and octagonal—are included and can stow away in convenient slots in the base itself. Another slot there lets you store a Link adapter.

The timing of the announcement seems aligned with the unveiling of Sony's Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls game, also slated for release next year. However, there several iconic games like Street Fighter 6, Tekken 8 and Mortal Kombat 1 for which the FlexStrike would be ideal.

As of now, unfortunately, we still don't have pricing details or a more exact launch date than "sometime in 2026".
