A new fan-made expansion for Red Dead Redemption 2 has been officially unveiled. Created by mod developer Rixus724, the project, titled Nuevo Paraíso – The Forgotten Frontier, brings back the Mexican territories from Red Dead Redemption 1, rebuilt from the ground up with modernised visuals and extended gameplay elements. The official announcement trailer was uploaded to Rixus’s YouTube channel, showcasing the mod’s expansive world and visual improvements.
Rebuilding RDR 1's Mexico for RDR 2
According to the trailer description, the project allows players to “explore the forgotten state of Nuevo Paraíso, redesigned from the ground up with incredible detail while preserving the aesthetic of both games.” Every town, settlement, and camp has been “meticulously created to capture the essence of Mexico,” featuring new vegetation for each region, clean roads and trails, and immersive landscapes “brought to life by the natural movements of its inhabitants as they go about their daily lives.”
Set in 1907, Nuevo Paraíso – The Forgotten Frontier maintains the atmosphere, lighting, and tone of Red Dead Redemption 2 to deliver a seamless and coherent experience that stays true to the canon. According to the trailer’s description, the army patrols the borders and each location is designed to merge naturally with the existing RDR 2 world map.
New Features: Content, Missions, and Dynamic Life
The Nuevo Paraíso RDR 2 mod promises to introduce far more than an expanded map. It claims to feature new settlements, trails, vegetation types, and detailed environments, along with additional side missions, hidden secrets, and lore-based content that expands on RDR 2’s narrative.
According to the mod description, the region’s population exhibits dynamic behaviours, ensuring that the Mexico map feels like a living, breathing part of Red Dead Redemption 2. While not an official release from Rockstar Games, Nuevo Paraíso – The Forgotten Frontier is described in its trailer as a large-scale fan expansion comparable in scope to a full DLC.
Release and Availability
As per the trailer’s description, the mod is currently in a showcase phase and not yet available for public download. Development is ongoing and exclusive to PC, with updates on release details and future availability on Nexus Mods expected at a later stage.
