Borderlands 4 was announced in August 2024 and it was more recently revealed that the game will launch on September 12, 2025. While the price for the game is currently unknown, the uncertain tariff situation and with prices for games and hardware going up, gamers are concerned. But it looks like the head of the company developing Borderlands 4, instead of offering relief, has aggravated fans further.
Last week, Randy Pitchford, the CEO of Gearbox Software, shared on X that Borderlands 4 will make its way to the Nintendo Switch 2. A fan responded to the post sharing their concern about the anticipated $80 price tag, claiming that the CEO has some input on the pricing. Rather than an empathetic response, Pitchford said that ‘a real fan’ will find a way to make it happen, i.e. pay for the game no matter what it costs.
Furthermore, he added an example of when he was working a minimum wage job out of high school in 1991 and managed to pay $80 for Starflight on the Sega Genesis.
Of course, that enraged fans further who called out the CEO for his seemingly elite response. One commentor said, “That has to be one of the worst CEO replies from recent memory,” while many others stated that they will not be buying the game. A move that was supposedly to inspire fans to buy the game seems to have backfired.
As mentioned earlier, the price for Borderlands 4 has not been revealed yet and neither has the pre-order date. Late last month, (April 29) Pitchford shared that the game will launch sooner than scheduled on September 12. At the time, it was believed that this was done to make room for GTA 6’s fall 2025 release, but that turned out to be inaccurate.
