In a somewhat surprising move, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford unexpectedly revealed the entire Borderlands 4 map, along with the exact locations of 200 hidden Marcus Bobblehead collectibles. This reveal comes months before the game’s official release.
On a detailed X thread on Twitter, Randy Pitchford shared key insights into the development of Borderlands 4 alongside a full screenshot of the map, showcasing key points of interest like Beach, RIP Tunnels, Crater, and Order of Hell.
Borderlands 4 is set in the new world of Kairos and promises to be one of the biggest and most interconnected universes in the IP's history. Pitchford stated that the team went to great lengths to create a massive world that is “fully filled.”
Moreover, the game will also introduce advanced movement mechanics like gliding, dashing, grappling, and double-jumping to explore every inch and corner of Kairos. According to Pitchford, the 200 Marcus Bobbleheads aren’t just mere collectibles; they will subtly tell an in-universe story. According to Pitchford:
“Someone on the moon of Elipse had a crate, bought from their local vendor. And, in the cataclysm, the crate, still full of collectibles, was hurtled towards Kairos. It broke apart and scattered the 200 or so of these things all over the place.”
Pitchford openly challenged completionists, stating, “Most players will never see any of them and only a very, very small number of people will explore Kairos so completely that they might discover them all.”
This move to reveal Borderlands 4’s map and all in-game collectibles is unusual, considering collectibles are left for players to discover organically.
Borderlands 4 is currently up for pre-order and is available for $69.99 instead of the previously declared $80 mark. Moreover, players can pre-order the deluxe and super deluxe editions, which are priced at $99.99 and $129.99, respectively.
Borderlands 4 will be available worldwide on September 12, 2025, for the Xbox Series S|X, PlayStation 5, and PC.
