Gamers still have no definitive answer about a GTA 6 Switch 2 release. During a Q&A, the Take-Two Interactive CEO was enthusiastic about the enhanced Switch 2 specs. On the other hand, he said not every game may land on the handheld.

Improved Switch 2 specs have led to more support from developers outside of Nintendo. The handheld boasts an lengthy lineup of launch titles dominated by third-party games. However, not all gamers believe the console is powerful enough for a GTA 6 release. Comments from the Take-Two Interactive boss suggest a Switch 2 version may not be a priority.

Following a financial report, CEO Strauss Zelnick expressed positivity about the future of Take-Two games on the platform. Unfortunately, one quote seems less optimistic for a May 2026 Switch 2 GTA 6 release date. According to Zelnick: "In terms of what we would bring to any platform, we address it on a case-by-case basis, we obviously want to be where the consumers are. But we would not necessarily bring every title to every platform. There are also great catalog opportunities as well."

Zelnick didn't rule out Grand Theft Auto 6 coming to Nintendo's new handheld. Take-Two's 2K Games subsidiary also won't immediately launch Mafia: The Old Country on the Switch 2. Still, with other questions focused on the game, it's difficult to imagine GTA 6 wasn't on the CEO's mind.

The Switch 2 uses a custom Nvidia T239 processor to produce better performance than its predecessor. Support for DLSS upscaling helps demanding games like Cyberpunk 2077 run smoothly. Even so, Grand Theft Auto 6 may prove challenging for any system. Rockstar Games has designed a massive open world with detailed characters and objects. Developers may have to downscale visuals significantly for acceptable frame rates on handhelds.

Zelnick also hinted that older Take-Two titles may arrive on the Switch 2. GTA 4 and GTA 5 never made it onto the Switch, and would be obvious targets. For now, many third-party Switch 2 games are already available on other systems.
