Budget PC gamers will struggle to run Mafia: The Old Country as the PC requirements for even a medium visual experience at 1080p are surprisingly high. Unreal Engine 5 continues to hammer budget builds.

Set to release on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series consoles on August 8, Mafia: The Old Country is a single player campaign driven game based in the underworld of 1900s Sicily. A new trailer and pricing for the game were recently revealed, but now the system requirements for PC have been updated and they’re quite high, even for full-HD resolution at medium settings.

According to the game’s Steam page, the minimum requirements are listed as AMD Ryzen 7 2700X or Intel Core i7-9700K for the CPU and AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT or Nvidia RTX 2070 for the GPU. That’s quite a demanding build to run the game at 1080p at the medium graphic preset. These are essentially PS5 level GPUs so those with more budget builds will struggle to run the game. Notably, the Radeon RX 5700 XT does not officially support ray tracing but the PS5’s hardware does.

Following are the full system requirements for Mafia: The Old Country:

Minimum requirements (Graphic Preset: Medium, Resolution: 1080p)

Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 2700X / Intel Core i7-9700K
Memory: 16 GB RAM
Graphics: AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT / Nvidia RTX 2070
DirectX: Version 12
Storage: 55 GB available space

Recommended requirements (Graphic Preset: High, Resolution: 1440p)

Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X / Intel Core i7-12700K
Memory: 32 GB RAM
Graphics: AMD Radeon RX 6950 XT / Nvidia RTX 3080 Ti
DirectX: Version 12
Storage: 55 GB available space

It was recently confirmed that Mafia: The Old Country will be a linear, narrative-driven experience. It does not have an open world unlike the previous Mafia game and in a press release, 2K President David Ismailer said, “We think there's a large audience for compelling stories that don't require massive time commitments.” As such, the game has been priced at $50 for the standard edition which is relatively cheaper than the AAA games coming out nowadays.

A gameplay trailer for Mafia: The Old Country titled “Whatever it Takes” was recently released and shows off some in engine gameplay and cinematic footage shedding some light on the plot and the characters. As mentioned earlier, the game is set to release on August 8.
