Following the leaks of a Radeon RX 9070 GRE, AMD has officially confirmed in the GPU in China. The card features a cut-down Navi 48 GPU, which also powers the RX 9070 and 9070 XT, alongside 12 GB of VRAM.
A major Chinese retailer, JD.com, has listed several RX 9070 GRE AIB models for pre-order with deliveries set to begin on May 8th. A recent leak claimed that AMD had delayed the launch of the RX 9070 GRE to Q4 2025. The leak has now been proven wrong which also call into question the leaked RX 9060 XT release date.
Like other RDNA 4 boards, AMD has decided against offering a “Reference Design” of the RX 9070 GRE. So, the card is only available from AIBs like Asus at a starting price of 4,199 RMB or around $450. There is no word on global availability yet. However, we can expect the card to be released globally a few months after launch in China, as AMD adopted the same strategy with the RX 7900 GRE.
RX 9070 GRE specifications
The Radeon RX 9070 GRE is powered by the Navi 48 GPU with:
- 48 Compute Units/3,072 Stream Processors
- 12 GB of 18 Gbps GDDR6 VRAM
- 48 MB of Infinity Cache
- A 192-bit wide bus
- Total memory bandwidth of 432 GB/s
- A boost clock of up to 2,790 MHz
- A 220 W TDP
According to AMD, the RX 9070 GRE enjoys a “Peak” half and single-precision computing performance of 68.6 TFLOPs and 34.3 TFLOPs, respectively.
RX 9070 GRE gaming performance
AMD claims that the RX 9070 GRE is, on average, 6% faster than the RX 7900 GRE at 1440p using the highest settings in 30 games. We’d advise not taking this performance claim at face value, as first-party numbers are rarely accurate. We have a separate piece pitting the performance of the RX 9070 GRE against the RX 7900 GRE and the RTX 5070.
Assuming the Radeon RX 9070 GRE performs like AMD claims it does, the card should offer a solid value at ~$450. As has been the case with recent GPU launches, the final value proposition will depend heavily on whether gamers can find the RX 9070 GRE at MSRP.
