Meanwhile, Xbox Series X and S gamers benefit from backward compatibility with some drawbacks. If a new rumor is accurate, a GTA 4 port may finally arrive on current-gen consoles as soon as the end of 2025.
The Grand Theft Auto IV news comes from Tez2, who has predicted previous Rockstar Games news through data mining. His track record isn't perfect, so gamers wait for official confirmation. Nevertheless, he refers to a source at Rockstar Games who "hinted at the IV port". If the game debuts soon enough, it could temper disappointment over the GTA 6 release date delay. However, it's unlikely that Take-Two Interactive would launch the GTA 4 port too soon before or after May 2026.
Rockstar Games drew criticism when it shut down the Liberty City Preservation Project. The mod introduced the Grand Theft Auto IV NYC-inspired setting in GTA 5, complete with functioning subways. Tez2 thinks the developer was clearing the stage for its own standalone GTA 4 PS5 and Xbox Series X port.
Players enjoy 60 fps performance in Grand Theft Auto IV on the Xbox Series X. Still, the version introduces graphical glitches, making some missions difficult to complete. Numerous mods and tweaks are often needed on the Steam PC version to avoid technical snafus. It doesn't seem like Rockstar Games will give the game an Oblivion-style remaster.
