When classic games are remastered, the focus is often on improved visuals and capitalizing on nostalgia. However, with Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered, developer Aspyr is giving gamers more ways to make new memories. The latest Playstation.Blog entry describes a new Flyby Camera Maker, which is essentially a photo mode on steroids. Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered releases on PCs and consoles this February 14th, and players can expect other improvements made possible with modern technology.
Photo mode was a popular addition to Tomb Raider I–III Remastered, which debuted last February. Lara Croft is one of our era's most recognizable video game personalities, and players jumped at the chance to capture her in action. The Flyby Camera Maker expands on the concept by enabling gamers to set up up to 20 cameras along a dungeon, tomb, or jungle. As Lara avoids impending doom, gamers can record her heroics from virtually any angle. Experimenting with different poses, costumes, and weapons is also encouraged.
Even though Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered is a cinematic spectacle, Aspyr realizes that watching the same cut scenes repeatedly gets stale. Players will now be able to skip these scenes with a single button. Another frustration gamers have had with the series is not knowing how many bullets Lara has at her disposal. The upcoming Tomb Raider release will include a handy ammo counter graphic, so players aren't left defenseless during critical moments.
Gamers should temper their expectations with the graphical fidelity of Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered. It's obvious from the shared videos that the games originated between 1999 and 2003. Still, players can expect higher framerates and new animations, including slide to run and hanging-on ledges. Perhaps most importantly, optional modern control schemes can replace the frequently clunky controls of the retro Tomb Raider titles.
As the Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered release date approaches, Aspyr may reveal more surprises besides the Flyby Camera Maker. On multiple platforms, players can reserve the game for $26.99, a slight discount over its normal $29.99 price.
