Evercade announces Tomb Raider Collection 1 to coincide with retro gaming hardware refreshes
Evercade has introduced a slew of new products, two years after introducing the EXP gaming handheld. On the one hand, the company has released new devices, albeit at lower price points than their predecessors. On the other hand, it has announced a new cartridge type called the 'Giga Cart'.
According to the company's press release, it has designed the Giga Cart 'specifically for larger and more modern retro games, mostly originally released on CD'. Nonetheless, the Giga Cart is the same size as existing cartridges. As such, it maintains compatibility with all Evercade and Super Pocket devices. Giga Carts will cost 25% more than other Evercade cartridges though at £22.49, $24.99 and €24.99 in the UK, US and Eurozone, respectively.
Evercade has kicked off the Giga Cart collection with Tomb Raider Collection 1, which consists of Tomb Raider, Tomb Raider II and Tomb Raider III. While Tomb Raider Collection 1 will be available for the prices listed above, it will also come bundled with early EXP-R and VS-R orders. In summary, the EXP-R and VS-R are cutdown versions of the EXP and VS aimed at hitting lower price points:
- Evercade EXP: £129.99, $149.99, €149.99
- Evercade EXP-R: £99.99, $99.99, €119.99
- Evercade VS: £89.99, $99.99, €99.99
- Evercade VS-R: £89.99, $99.99, €109.99
For example, the EXP-R does without the mini-HDMI port found on the original EXP; please see Evercade's press release for more information. Evercade will open pre-orders for the EXP-R, VS-R and the Tomb Raider Collection 1 on April 30. However, none of Evercade's new products will begin shipping until July 2024.
