Although the rumor had been circulating on social networks for several months, the announcement is now official, and it's Sophie Turner who will play the famous Lara Croft in the Tomb Raider series produced by Prime Video. Other information has also been revealed, reassuring fans of the franchise.
The announcement was made yesterday, and after playing Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones, Sophie Turner will have to change roles to play the famous adventurer Lara Croft. And despite the popularity of this iconic character, this role doesn't seem to frighten her, as she explains to Variety:
"I am thrilled beyond measure, to be playing Lara Croft. She’s such an iconic character, who means so much to so many – and I am giving everything I’ve got. They’re massive shoes to fill, following in the steps of Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander with their powerhouse performances, but with Phoebe at the helm, we (and Lara) are all in very safe hands. I can’t wait for you all to see what we have cooking."
And that's not all, as Phoebe Waller-Bridge will be writing, producing and co-directing this Prime Video series. She will also be assisted by Jonathan Van Tulleken and Chad Hodge.
Production is scheduled to begin on January 19, 2026, according to Variety, and we still don't know what the storyline will be, or when the series will be released. But there's no doubt that more information will be revealed in the coming months, allowing to meet the expectations of fans who are eagerly awaiting the next Tomb Raider game.
