It’s bad news that might worry many fans. Indeed, Crystal Dynamics has just announced the dismissal of several employees, probably due to the cancellation of the game Perfect Dark by Microsoft last July.
The announcement was made on LinkedIn last night, although the number of people affected was not revealed:
"Today we made the very difficult decision to part ways with a number of our talented colleagues as the result of evolving business conditions. This decision was not made lightly. It was necessary, however, to ensure the long-term health of our studio and core creative priorities in a continually shifting market. To those impacted, we recognize and thank you for your hard work, talent, and passion. We are committed to offering the full extent of support and resources at our disposal during this transition."
Thus, if the reason mentioned concerns the current economic situation, it should be noted that Perfect Dark had already faced numerous problems in recent months, jeopardizing Crystal Dynamics' finances. In addition, many employees, now licensed, have posted messages on LinkedIn related to this game, suggesting that these layoffs are related to it.
However, faced with this decision and the dismissal of 17 employees earlier this year, some fans are wondering whether Tomb Raider and the various projects related to this license will be threatened. And to reassure them, Crystal Dynamics stated the following in its press release:
"To our teams, players, and partners, thank you for your continued support as we build a creative, sustainable, and resilient tomorrow together. This includes the future of Tomb Raider, which remains unaffected by this decision.”
As a result, the next Tomb Raider game and the potential remaster of The Tomb Raider Trilogy still seem relevant. Which allows reassuring thousands of fans around the world.
