A new remake of the 1996 Tomb Raider game could be unveiled at The Game Awards 2025

The Game Awards 2025 will take place on Thursday, December 11, 2025, and many gamers are waiting for game announcements, as for Star Wars. But if this ceremony rewards projects released this year, several rumors have gained momentum in recent days. And recently, a rumor claims that a new remake of the 1996 Tomb Raider game will be unveiled at this event. 

It's important to note that Tomb Raider fans have been waiting for a new game for several years. Indeed, except for remasters, the last game in the franchise was released in 2018. A difficult expectation for them, especially since many rumors have emerged in recent months. 

Thus, if this new game will use Unreal Engine 5, some people think that it would be an open world, which would give another dimension to the license. Not to mention a recent announcement regarding the Tomb Raider series, stating that this project and this new game will be linked. But apart from these details, Crystal Dynamics remains silent, and no further information has been revealed.

However, there could be a surprise at The Game Awards 2025. According to @RaidersSociety on X, a remake of the 1996 Tomb Raider game could be unveiled during this ceremony. And if this may please some fans from the first hour, it is not the case for others.

A remake always hides another remake

In recent months, numerous remakes and remasters of the Tomb Raider franchise have been released, allowing thousands of players to rediscover several legendary adventures. However, the announcement of a potential new remake was not well received by all fans, as can be seen in the comments. Indeed, several people are quite disappointed: "Imagine waiting 7 years for TR12 and its another remake of the first game…”, “The original TR has been remade once, had a remake scrapped and was remastered along with TR2 and 3. This is gonna be the fourth version of TR1”. 

But these are just rumors and nothing has been officially confirmed. In other words, it is necessary to remain cautious until The Game Awards 2025, which will take place on December 11, 2025.
