One of the most beloved Star Wars games may soon reemerge on PCs and consoles. A respected leaker has provided more hints about what title could make headlines at The Game Awards. The Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake is overdue for an update, but a new title is also possible.

An insider recently leaked that an announcement related to a Star Wars game was imminent. Given that the franchise has spawned over 100 titles, the news has raised endless speculation. After a follow-up post from Kurakasis, fans have a better idea of which project he is teasing. The latest hint could mean that the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake is closer to release.

Kurakasis first reignited the rumor mill with a social media post on December 3rd. He predicted a “big Star Wars game” announcement, while ruling out a few candidates. Neither the strategic Star Wars: Zero Company nor the action-adventure Star Wars Eclipse is the title the insider is referring to. The new clue that the title includes The Old Republic further narrows down the possibilities.

Many fans now expect to hear an update on the modernized Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. The remake of the 2003 RPG was unveiled at the 2021 PlayStation Showcase. Development has hit several snags, prompting Saber Interactive to take the reins from Aspyr Media.

What is the state of the KOTOR Remake?

Amidst fears of cancellation, Saber Chief Creative Officer Tim Willits broke the silence in March 2025. He reassured gamers that all of its ongoing projects were safe. Presumably, that included the anticipated KOTOR Remake. Since then, followers have been waiting for additional details, with The Game Awards a likely time and place to learn more.

Unfolding thousands of years before the original movie trilogy, BioWare’s Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic introduced new storylines and characters. The series eventually transitioned to an MMORPG debuting in 2011. Many gamers assume the Kurakasis is referencing the remake of the first title. Even so, there is the potential for a different Star Wars game to use the Old Republic moniker.

A Total War game involving the Galactic Republic and Sith Empire would attract a large audience. Rumors that Creative Assembly was tackling such a tactical strategy game surfaced in 2024. More recently, it promised a major reveal of a Total War title at The Game Awards. Indications that the studio will stray from its customary historic settings may suggest a collaboration with Star Wars or Warhammer 40,000.
