After endless speculation, it’s now clearer what the mysterious The Game Awards statue will celebrate. MP1st found recent European trademarks referencing the Divinity CRPG series. With one attached image matching the artwork's design, Larian Studios' next game could be Divinity 3.

Ever since Geoff Keighley teased gamers with a demonic statue, theories about its meaning have been nonstop. Insiders dismissed popular guesses about a Diablo 4 expansion and a new God of War title. Finally, there is convincing evidence that the artwork will instead welcome a new entry in the Divinity series. MP1st discovered several new trademarks likely related to the next Larian Studios game.

Three European filings feature a logo and artwork that fans of the CRPGs should find familiar. With a document labeled as “Divinity”, each trademark is linked to the same applicant. When superimposing one graphic on the mysterious statue, there are too many similarities to ignore. The designs of the images differ slightly from those of games already released.

Some skeptics will wait until the announcements at The Game Awards conclude. Nevertheless, there have been other signs that Larian Studios has been preparing to introduce a new Divinity game. On December 8th, leaker eXtas1s posted an image from the series without further explanation. Still, his track record with predictions has not been spotless.

Multiple new Divinity releases could be incoming

With Divinity 3 possibly looming, Larian also appears to have more options in store for console gamers. In 2024, a PEGI rating surfaced for Divinity: Original Sin 2- Definitive Edition on PlayStation and Xbox. Finally, dataminer PlayStation Game Size just discovered evidence of the title on the PSN service. This activity often points to news about a release in the coming days or weeks.

The Game Awards looks jam-packed with other major franchises, like Tomb Raider, expected to consume valuable minutes. Even so, Larian Studios could make the wait easier for a new CRPG by introducing older games to new audiences. PS4 and Xbox versions of Original Sin 2 were already available, but weren’t optimized for the latest consoles.

Considering the success of Baldur’s Gate 3, it’s easy to overlook the popularity of Divinity. In particular, the 2017 DOS II notched over 7 million sales and enjoyed critical acclaim. Some gamers prefer the tactical freedom the series offers rather than BG’s more rigid Dungeons & Dragons rules. With several spin-offs cancelled, it seems the developers have finally found the right formula for a follow-up.
