A Geoff Keighley social media post featuring a haunting sculpture sparked a firestorm of speculation. Some gamers had hoped The Game Awards host was referencing a future God of War game. According to Jez Corden, the artwork is instead teasing a new Diablo 4 expansion. However, a follow-up post from the Windows Central editor has some fans expecting news about a Switch 2 port.
Corden reminded gamers of a November 6th statement in which he suggested reinstalling Diablo 4. More recently, responding to the sculpture confusion, he dismissed God of War as a possibility. A reader then asked Corden about a potential Diablo 4 expansion, prompting a “yes but also, more” reply.
The Game Awards unveiling major additions to the Blizzard action RPG wouldn’t be a shock. A dataminer had uncovered an image that included the December 12th date in Chinese. Addressing the discovery, a Diablo game designer and associate game director recommended watching the award show. The developers also have a 2026 expansion on the official roadmap to follow up on the Vessel of Hatred.
What may be Blizzard be planning?
What’s more puzzling about Corden’s prediction is what else the publisher may announce. One popular guess is that the game will arrive on a new platform. Already available on Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation consoles, that only leaves Nintendo’s latest handheld as an option.
Rumblings about Diablo 4 becoming a Switch 2 game began early in 2025. Expanding on a NateTheHate2 leak, eXtas1s claimed the Blizzard project would join other Xbox titles launching on the console. Former Blizzard general manager Rod Fergusson later expressed interest in a port. Even so, the title’s live service model posed a challenge for the system.
If the developers found a solution, The Game Awards could have a surprise in store for Nintendo fans. Although Microsoft hinted that its studios would bring more titles to the Switch 2, releases have been sparse so far. Activision could also soon confirm a Call of Duty game for the handheld, with Black Ops 7 missing in action.
