Star Wars Outlaws sales figure fails to meet expectations as Ubisoft releases update roadmap for game
When Ubisoft revealed the official gameplay of Star Wars Outlaws in June 2023, fans were quite excited about the game. Impressive graphics, iconic Star Wars locations, a massive open world, and the promise of a thrilling adventure, the title seemed to have everything. However, fans were left disappointed when the game's retail version wasn’t what Ubisoft had promised.
Because of a slew of issues like bugs, weak enemy AI, and middling combat, Star Wars Outlaws garnered a MetaScore of 76 and a user score of 5.4/10. While not a flop, neither the critics nor the fans are too keen on the game. This is reflected in the game’s reported sales figures.
Star Wars Outlaws sales figures
According to Insider Gaming, Star Wars Outlaws sales stand at only 1 million a month after launch and have, therefore, failed to meet Ubisoft’s expectations.
To put this into perspective, Respawn’s Star Wars Jedi: Survivor topped the US sales charts just two days after release in April 2023. The game also reportedly sold millions of copies after only 11 days according to EA. So, the sales of Star Wars Outlaws are nowhere near the last Star Wars title.
That said, Ubisoft is seemingly addressing the issues and has published a roadmap for the game.
Star Wars Outlaws update roadmap
Star Wars Outlaws is slated to get an update focused on “bug fixes and improvements” on October 3. This update will be followed by another one on October 24 that will mainly bring “quality of life improvements”. A month later, on November 21, Ubisoft intends to release an update focused primarily on fixing the game’s combat and stealth, two of the fans' biggest grievances. The update will also treat fans to new contracts.
The November 21 Star Wars Outlaws update will also feature the first story expansion titled “Wild Card”. This will be the first of two planned post-release DLCs for the game.
In the end, only time will tell how big of an effect Ubisoft’s planned fixes and story content have on the long-term health and reception of the game.
