One of the advantages of the Switch 2 is its ability to play demanding third-party titles. Star Wars Outlaws proved that intensive open-world titles can run acceptably on the Nintendo handheld. That has led to more anticipation for another Ubisoft game. After a French retailer revealed the Assassin's Creed Shadows Switch 2 box art, its release date and price have now leaked.
According to the reliable leaker billbil-kun, the port will launch in France on December 5th, 2025. While he is less certain of pre-order details, sources suggest that confirmation could come by November 7th. As with other high-profile Switch 2 games, the Assassin's Creed Shadows release date will likely be identical worldwide.
Country-specific pricing is unclear, but billbil-kun expects the game to cost €50. From the French Auchan listing, there is no indication that the open-world epic will include any additional content. Claws of Awaji, the first DLC for the feudal Japan-set epic, arrived on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on September 16th. Nevertheless, the MSRP may quiet critics of the more costly Switch 2 games and accessories.
Assassin's Creed Shadows won't be on a standard cartridge
What won't please naysayers is the format for the Assassin's Creed Shadows Switch 2 port. The retail version will ship on a Game-Key Card, which has been widely panned by physical media supporters. Buyers can later sell their copies, but the releases depend on internet connectivity to download game files.
With a release date less than two months away, it seems inevitable that the publisher will make an announcement soon. In July, CEO Yves Guillemot hinted that the Switch 2 port was in development. Not long after, gamers learned that the Ubisoft game would have a PEGI 18 rating.
Fans will now wait to see if the Assassin's Creed Shadows Switch 2 version can produce the same smooth visuals as Star Wars Outlaws. Other third-party titles like Cyberpunk 2077 have also raised expectations for performance.
