CD Projekt Red revealed in its recent H1 2025 Earnings Report that more than 75% of Cyberpunk 2077’s Nintendo Switch 2 sales were physical editions. The sales split was revealed on Thursday, stating that 24.6% of Cyberpunk 2077’s Switch 2 sales were digital, compared to the exact physical sales figure of 75.4%.
Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition was released in June 2025, alongside the Nintendo Switch 2 in June. Although the exact sales figures have not been released, it’s reported to be the best-selling third-party Switch 2 game since launch, according to market research company Circana.
CD Projekt Red joint-CEO Michal Nowakowski stated:
“Among the core aspects of our strategy is the ability to offer our products to a broad audience while retaining top quality. For that reason, we’re particularly glad that Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition was released on Nintendo Switch 2 on the day of its global launch, and that it continues to rank among the best-selling third-party titles on the platform.”
Cyberpunk 2077 was undoubtedly one of the most notable high-profile third-party titles released on launch day, and also one of the very few third-party titles that was not released as a Game-Key Card, but as a full physical cartridge release.
Game Key Cards have attracted considerable criticism from the gaming community due to the fact that they only contain a digital activation key for games, instead of any game data.
This information, paired with the fact that the majority of Switch 2’s third-party offerings are on Game-Key Cards, has upset the gaming community, with one of the few exceptions being Cyberpunk 2077. This is because a maximum of 64GB is currently available to developers if they opt for a physical cartridge release of their title.
Nintendo announced its own results earlier this month, where the company reported that the Switch 2 sold more than 6 million units within the first seven weeks of sale. Switch 2’s day-one first-party launch title, Mario Kart World, has reportedly sold 5.63 million copies globally.
Circana’s Matt Piscatella reported on BlueSky that the Nintendo Switch 2 has crossed 2 million in unit sales in the US, putting it 75% ahead of the sales run of the original Switch handheld when compared across a similar timeframe.
