CD Projekt Red (CDPR) is working on Cyberpunk 2, along with a few other major projects. The game will once again feature Night City as well as another region that is said to be a futuristic dystopian Chicago. What’s also changing for the sequel is the implementation of some kind of online multiplayer, or so it seems from the latest job listings put out by CDPR.
The company took to X to share several open positions, one of which is “Lead Network Engineer” for Cyberpunk 2. Diving into the description of this listing, several daily responsibilities hint at online features coming to the game. They are as follows:
- Design, implement, and maintain scalable and efficient network architectures for online features.
- Ensure low-latency, high-performance online experiences for players.
- Lead your team to develop and optimize multiplayer systems, including matchmaking, and address challenges related to latency, bandwidth usage, and server performance.
- Work closely with game designers, gameplay programmers, and other departments to integrate network features seamlessly.
This could be taken as a confirmation of online multiplayer for Cyberpunk 2 but until CDPR makes an official announcement, it remains in the realm of speculation. It is also unclear in what capacity the online features will be implemented. Nonetheless, it would be interesting to see how the game feels with a multiplayer element. Hopefully, the launch will be more positive than it was for Cyberpunk 2077 back in 2020. As of now, there is no release date for the sequel and it will likely take several years to reach the masses.
