Keanu Reeves wants to revisit Cyberpunk, confirming that he “absolutely” intends to reprise his role as Johnny Silverhand if given the choice in the confirmed upcoming sequel to Cyberpunk 2077.
Speaking to IGN, while promoting his upcoming movie Good Fortune, Keanu Reeves was asked if he was interested in playing as Johnny Silverhand in Cyberpunk 2. Keanu Reeves stated with excitement, “Absolutely, I’d love to play Johnny Silverhand again.”
Reeves made a mark in the gaming community with his memorable appearance at Cyberpunk 2077’s release date announcement at E3 2019 and his iconic response, “You’re breathtaking. You’re all breathtaking!”
Keanu Reeves played the rockstar terrorist, Johnny Silverhand, whose subconscious was backed up as a digital engram that was later uploaded into the protagonist, V’s mind. Cyberpunk 2077’s multiple endings raise fan theories regarding the sequel’s narrative approach.
The Temperance ending allows Johnny to take over V’s body, while V joins Alt Cunningham beyond the Blackwall. In contrast, The Sun ending allows V to return to his body as Johnny Silverhand joins cyberspace.
The Arasaka ending removes the relic from V’s body, completely erasing Johnny Silverhand, and similarly, Phantom Liberty’s King of Pentacles ending completely cures V from the relic’s effects but makes him incompatible with cyberware, basically turning him into an ordinary person after spending two years in a coma.
Considering the myriad of multiple endings for Cyberpunk 2077, if Keanu Reeves' role is reprised, CD Projekt Red will definitely have to thread the needle carefully with some creative storytelling.
Furthermore, Cyberpunk creator Mike Pondsmith recently shared some details regarding Cyberpunk 2’s development. While he’s less hands-on this time around, he explained that he still has to review scripts and provide feedback on different in-game features.
He teased that players would return to Night City in Cyberpunk 2 along with another new location, which he called “like Chicago gone wrong.”
Co-CEO of CD Projekt, Michal Nowakowski, has stated that games generally journey from pre-production to final release in four to five years on average, which means that Cyberpunk 2 will release sometime in 2029 or 2030.
Project Orion entered pre-production in May 2025 before being internally retitled as Cyberpunk 2. According to CD Projekt Red, more than 100 developers are already working on the sequel.
