Helldivers 2 players have been growing frustrated over the days due to the ballooning file size of the game on PC. The game has recently surpassed 140GB on PC following the “Into The Unjust” update.
Players have taken to Reddit and Steam to vent their frustration, pointing out that the latest patch alone contributed to the bloat in the game’s file size, with users noting that despite the fact that the PC file size exceeds 140GB, the console version is smaller in comparison.
To add fuel to the fire, players have reported worse performance, new bugs, and stability problems, leading to a divide in the fanbase, with some calling the storage demands and compounding bugs “beyond ridiculous” while users on consoles such as PlayStation and Xbox continue to enjoy the game.
Keeping in view of all these issues, Arrowhead Game Studios CEO Shams Jorjani has stepped in to address the myriad of problems plaguing the game after the latest update. In a direct response on the Helldivers 2 Official Discord server, Jorjiani acknowledged the concerns when he was asked about the game’s file size, and responded, “We have escalated the priority of this. But I can’t tell you when it will be addressed.”
Arrowhead Game Studios has always been quick to respond to community complaints and feedback. However, there’s no definitive timeline for when the game’s file size will be addressed. Of course, the technical woes concerning performance issues and bugs will eventually be fixed with upcoming patches.
To put things into perspective, Helldivers 2’s file size clocked in at 25GB at launch and has grown to just over 35GB on PS5 following updates, and around 36GB on the Xbox Series S|X. Players have attributed the ballooning file size to duplicate assets on Helldivers 2’s PC build.
According to players, unique assets in the game total around 30.39GB, but files like a 2K normal map for rocky terrain are repeated up to 128 times, taking up an extra 2GB of space. Jorjani admitted that the “technical debt is crippling” and that the studio didn’t meet the standards it set out to achieve with its recent update.
Despite these issues, Helldivers 2 remains a monumental success, proving its relevancy moving forward into 2025. Following its arrival on the Xbox Series S|X on August 26, 2025, the game quickly became the top paid title on the platform with nearly one million sales in the first six days, and a concurrent player count of 500,000 active Helldivers.
