Arrowhead CEO says he wants Helldivers 2 to be a "forever game" like RuneScape, no plans for a sequel

If you’re an active Helldivers 2 player waiting for a sequel, it looks like you’ll be waiting a long time. This is because the CEO of Arrowhead has shared that they have no plans for a sequel right now, as their entire focus is on the current game.

In the game’s official Discord server, a player asked Arrowhead Game Studios’ CEO, Shams Jorjani, if Helldivers 3 would be a natural continuation of Helldivers 2. Jorjani replied that the team currently has no plans for a sequel. Instead, their focus is fully on Helldivers 2, and he compared his vision to RuneScape, a classic MMO that has been running and growing for years.

“We have no plans for hd3 - just hd2 for as long as it can go. think runescape”, said Jorjani. 

Jorjani further explained that he and the directors want Helldivers 2 to be a “forever game,” so instead of focusing on the sequel, they want to keep improving it for years. However, Jorjani also admitted that there’s still a lot of work to do if they want to achieve their goals.

“Myself and the directors agree we would love this to be a forever game”. He continued, “Assuming we get a grip on the performance and dev practices we can keep expanding it for a long time. PlayStation is super supportive.”

Ever since the game was released, Hellidivers 2 players have been complaining about performance issues, especially on PC. While the developers have released several updates to improve the game, it’s still not in the best state. However, it’s great to see that the team behind Helldivers 2 is committed to constantly improving it and wants to support it for years.
