The Helldivers 2 Xbox release on August 26th is another step toward the end of platform exclusivity. A new trailer promoting the game may also signal the arrival of Halo on the PlayStation. Earlier rumors hinted that multiple PS5 games based on the shooter are in development.
At the end of the Bring the Boom trailer, viewers see a drop pod falling from the night sky. Music from Halo 3: OSDT accompanies the scene, further sparking the interest of fans. Gamers can find the video on official PlayStation and Xbox channels, so the Halo content would arrive on both gaming systems.
Interestingly, more rumblings about potential Halo PS5 games emerged before the video appeared. In June, the Grunt.api dataminer found evidence in the Xbox API of releases intended for the PlayStation platform. Now, the Rebs Gaming YouTube channel has provided more details about the discovery.
Grunt.api, who has accurately leaked Halo news in the past, speculates that one title could be Project Ekur. Developed by Certain Affinity, the game would feature a Battle Royale mode intended for Halo Infinite. Traces of the mysterious project were found on Microsoft's PlayFab. The service powers multiplayer modes and cloud saves in cross-platform games.
The data mining also revealed two other potential releases, including a beta. Regardless of their purpose, with more Xbox games debuting on the PS5, the franchise may benefit. Following the somewhat disappointing Halo Infinite on PC and Xbox, the TV show based on the IP concluded in 2024. The Helldivers 2 DLC could be the first step in reinvigorating the series, followed by Halo PS5 games.
