While hard to fathom at first, Xbox exclusives arriving on other systems are becoming regular occurrences. Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer suggested that a Starfield PS5 version may become a reality. However, gamers have yet to hear confirmation that Bethesda's action RPG would go cross-platform. With a PlayStation logo on Bethesda's Starfield mods site, players have some indication that these plans are progressing.
Bethesda Creations hosts content and mods, both free and paid, for titles like Starfield and Fallout 4. Pages on the site have icons to indicate which platforms a download is compatible with. Observant gamers noticed one of the Starfield mods suddenly had a PlayStation logo. Someone likely noticed the error and has since removed the graphic.
A Starfield PS5 version would make it one of many Xbox exclusives to transition to the PlayStation. Bethesda's Indiana Jones and the Great Circle PS5 release date recently leaked as April 17th. Forza Horizon 5 will come to Sony's gaming system shortly after, on April 29th. Sea of Thieves already broke new ground with a PS5 debut last April.
With Xbox Series X sales declining, Microsoft's cross-platform efforts are intensifying. Still, many titles remain timed exclusives rather than day-one PS5 releases. In the case of Starfield, the futuristic RPG has been available since September 2023. Keeping these games restricted to the Xbox and PC temporarily at least gives gamers an incentive not to abandon ship.
How successful a Starfield PS5 port would be is another question. With mixed Steam reviews, the title hasn't met the lofty expectations set by the Fallout series. Even so, many players argue that the game has improved with regular updates and DLC. Bethesda Creations also offers popular Starfield mods that keep gameplay feeling fresh. If Starfield does launch on the PS5, players should benefit from this content and more evolved combat and exploration.
