A new Square Enix progress report highlights how cross-platform games boosted profits in its HD games sector. It also provides a roadmap for new releases through 2028. Simultaneous releases on PC and consoles are a priority, but Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 is not yet on the schedule. As a result, there is still some doubt that the RPG will arrive without a period of PS5 exclusivity.
In 2024, the publisher announced that it would release future games on multiple platforms to address its operating losses. This strategy is working well, with titles like Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake proving profitable. The report indicates that this approach has helped grow the fan base for each IP.
Square Enix also confirms that upcoming titles will debut on all systems at the same time. The roadmap includes Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade, which will arrive on the Switch 2 and Xbox on January 22, 2026. It also lists Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, but lacks a release date for either console.
Without a trailer, it’s not surprising that Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 isn’t on the chart. Still, game director Naoki Hamaguchi has reassured players that its development is progressing rapidly. Although Final Fantasy games will not be permanently confined to the PS5, the timeline for the title's release remains unclear.
The PS5 may still have benefits for Final Fantasy fans
Gamers continue to debate whether a PlayStation console will see Part 3 before the PC, Xbox, and Switch 2. Sony appears less concerned with exclusive benefits, following a recent leak about PS5 PC cross-buy. Nevertheless, all previous entries in the remake series were locked on the PS5 before a wider release.
Hamaguchi has a structure in place to support a day-one cross-platform launch. In previous interviews, he described assigning platforms to individual development teams. The goal is to optimize the game for systems with varying technical requirements, such as the Switch 2. Hopefully, that results in no Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 release date delays for any fans.
