Some PC owners dream of a day when all first-party Sony IPs become cross-platform games. If a new job listing is correct, MLB The Show may be the next PS5 franchise to come to desktops and laptops. San Diego Studio is searching for a Senior Graphics Programmer to optimize a AAA PC game.

Sony surprised some analysts when it announced that Helldivers 2 would port to Xbox consoles. Gradually, multiplayer live service PS5 games are finding their way to competing systems and PCs. While MLB The Show 25 is already on Microsoft’s consoles, desktop gamers aren't as fortunate. That may change soon after fans noticed a new job ad from San Diego Studio.

The advertised position is for a Senior PC Graphics Programmer. With a mention of an “AAA PC title”, the applicant would focus on “developing and optimizing real-time graphics systems specifically for PC”. Under Sony Interactive Entertainment, San Diego Studio has focused most of its attention on MLB The Show. Although the job could involve an unannounced PS5 game, some sports fans are already celebrating the news.

Sony caused a stir after gamers learned that MLB The Show 21 was headed to the Xbox. The PS5 exclusive game had remained locked to PlayStation consoles since 2006. However, after pressure from MLB, the first-party PS5 baseball title went cross-platform, eventually including a Switch version.

PC sports gamers are often left behind

With Xbox and PlayStation trading exclusives, PC users have also benefited from the shift in strategy. Unfortunately, sports enthusiasts haven’t enjoyed the same level of accessibility. Popular franchises like Madden NFL, NBA 2K, and EA FC are available. That said, Windows versions have often lagged behind their console counterparts. When developers finally update in-game engines to current-gen, multiplayer modes may lack a thriving population.

The multiplayer MLB The Show 25 thrives from microtransactions. Buyers purchase stubs to upgrade their Diamond Dynasty fantasy teams and dominate opponents. Even with a smaller PC community, Sony may no longer be able to resist the added revenue.

Another often requested PC and Xbox port from gamers is Gran Turismo 7. Sadly, an earlier rumor suggested Sony had abandoned plans for a Windows release.
