The book project "Sony: Personal Audio – A Visual Journey 1955–2025" has launched via a Kickstarter campaign. It will be approximately 220 pages long and will cover over 100 devices that once turned Sony into a global leader.

ObsoleteSony has announced the start of a Kickstarter campaign for its book called "Sony: Personal Audio – A Visual Journey 1955–2025" on Bluesky. The book looks back at the long-gone days of the Japanese tech giant, who once dominated the audio industry unlike almost any other company.

The 220-page book follows Sony's audio history, as the author named Eddy reveals. The hardcover measures about 8.3 by 8.3 inches and will contain more than 100 pictures of devices. This project is supported by the publisher Sandeep (2 Old 4 Gaming), the designer Jason Maddison (@PlaySushiUK) and cover artist Javier D’Amico (@Javpixel).

"Personal Audio – A Visual Journey 1955–2025" follows the already published book "Sony: Year by Year, A Visual Journey," which is also available in a bundle. As usual, this crowdfunding campaigns entails the usual risks for buyers. That being said, ObsoleteSony will likely hit its crowdfunding goal, as they already received about a third of the roughly $32,000 needed less than an hour after the official announcement.

If the campaign is successful, the contribution will be charged on November 26. The hardcover book costs about $49 excluding shipping or possible import fees. The book will be finished between December 2025 and February 2026 and will be released between March and June 2026.
