Earlier this month, Sony’s forthcoming WF-1000XM6 earbuds surfaced on the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). While a sure sign that Sony is preparing to replace the WF-1000XM5 (curr. $311 on Amazon), the listing did not confirm when the company plans to complement the WH-1000XM6 it introduced earlier this year.
Added to that, the current US government shutdown made it impossible to delve deeper into the documents that the FCC initially published. Nonetheless, it seemed that some of the documents that the FCC did list on its public database did contain a few additional tidbits about the WF-1000XM6 that were missed initially.
According to The Walkman Blog, MrWalkman has informed it that the WF-1000XM6 utilises an upgraded chipset over the one Sony uses inside the WF-1000XM5. Specifically, the website suggests that the WF-1000XM6 will switch to the MediaTek MT2855, an Airoha AB1595 variant with integrated AI.
As a result, the WF-1000XM6 may be Sony’s first wireless earbuds that support Digital Sound Enhancement Engine Ultimate (DSEE Ultimate). An audio upscaling algorithm, DSEE Ultimate is the most advanced DSEE that Sony offers. However, it may well reduce battery life on the WF-1000XM6 when being used simultaneously with Equaliser functionality. Although a release date also remains unknown for now, the earbuds’ recent certification in Canada implies that we will see more of Sony’s WF-1000XM5 successors sooner rather than later.
