As Xbox boss Sara Bond said on the Xbox Podcast, the new Microsoft console, which is currently being developed under the codename "Xbox Next", will be "the biggest technical leap" that fans have ever seen in a hardware generation. After recent rumors about the release window of the new Xbox have flared up, there is now another hot leak.
Jez Corden, a well-known journalist and editor at Windows Central, has confirmed a rumor on X that emerged last year. The Xbox Next is to become an open system and serve as a reference device for third-party providers - similar to how Nvidia graphics cards are used as a reference for graphics cards from other manufacturers or the Microsoft Surface Pro 11 is a reference device for AI PCs. This offers other companies the opportunity to produce their own Xbox devices.
The next Xbox has a heavy Windows slant and will be a reference device for manufacturers making devices like the ASUS ROG Ally most likely. Like Surface Pro 11 is a reference device for AI PCs.

As Jez Corden has already confirmed several times in his podcast The XB2 on Spotify he assumes that the new Xbox will be launched on the market in several versions - including a handheld. If the Xbox Next is indeed a reference device, third-party providers can offer their own Xbox PCs as either a stationary desktop or mobile handheld. It would also be possible for Microsoft to offer the console with different components.
