A rumor has recently surfaced in the gaming community that Microsoft is allegedly preparing an offer to acquire Valve for 16 billion dollars. This information comes from an X post by DiorCS - a lawyer who, according to his X account, is also active in finance and the Counter-Strike community.
With approx. $80b CCE, Microsoft is preparing an offer of $16b for Valve

Unfortunately, it is not known where Dior got his information from. Nonetheless, his post on X has spread like wildfire on the Internet and has now achieved over 5.7 million views. At first glance, Microsoft's interest in Valve seems obvious. After all, the company has established itself in the handheld gaming sector with the Steam Deck (available on Amazon for $524), something that Microsoft has not yet managed to do. On closer inspection, however, this does not appear to be a realistic offer.
Last year, Microsoft acquired Activision Blizzard for 68.7 billion US dollars. It seems rather unrealistic that Valve, with its thriving gaming store and brands such as Counter-Strike, Dota and Half Life, would only be worth around a quarter of this price. After the veracity of the rumor was already being questioned in the comments under Dior's X post, well-known gaming insider Tom Warren has spoken out. He regrets that you can now buy the blue checkmark on X and says that Microsoft is not planning to take over Valve:
I can’t believe I have to say this but of course Microsoft isn’t “preparing an offer of $16 billion for Valve.” Giving blue ticks to everyone was bad idea ????
