Until now, Sony's PlayStation VR 2 (PS VR2) headset has been limited to the PlayStation 5 (curr. $449 on Amazon). However, the company announced in spring that it would make the headset compatible with Windows, albeit without confirming how. More recently, references to a 'PlayStation VR2 PC adapter' surfaced online, which Sony has now announced.
As expected, the PlayStation VR 2 PC adapter is required to use the headset on Windows. In a PlayStation Blog post, Sony confirms that the adapter connects to a PC over DisplayPort and USB Type-A, the former of which must conform to DisplayPort 1.4 and be a 'standard DisplayPort or Mini DisplayPort output port'. Nonetheless, Sony will not include a DisplayPort cable with the PC adapter itself. Also, the adapter has a USB Type-C port for providing power to the PS VR2.
Moreover, the headset must be set up for PC using the PlayStation VR 2 app, which will be downloadable from Steam. On top of that, the PS VR2 is only officially compatible with Steam VR. As a result, you must have PlayStation and Steam accounts to play VR games on PC with the PS VR2 headset. Sony's minimum PC requirements are relatively undemanding though, which we have reproduced below. The PlayStation VR 2 PC adapter will be available on August 7, 2024 for £49.99, $59.99 and €59.99 in the UK, US and the Eurozone, respectively.
