There has been plenty of talk about Sony's plans for a PlayStation 5 Pro of late. However, it seems that the company is still working towards improving the capabilities of its latest VR headset (curr. $449.99 on Amazon). To recap, Sony confirmed in February that it would eventually allow the PlayStation VR 2 (PS VR2) to connect to a PC, the announcement of which we have covered separately.
Specifically, the company stated that it was 'testing the ability for PS VR2 players to access additional games on PC'. Nonetheless, Sony elected against revealing how the PS VR2 and a PC would talk to each other. VR savant Brad Lynch has now discovered that Sony has developed dedicated hardware to bridge the gap between the two.
As the screenshot below shows, Sony has certified the PlayStation VR 2 PC Adapter with the National Radio Research Agency (NRRA) in South Korea, which carries the model number 'CFI-ZVP1'. For context, the PS VR2 communicates with a PS5 via a USB Type-C cable that carries audio, video, power and data. Given that many desktops lack Power Delivery and DisplayPort Alt Mode-capable USB Type-C ports, we suspect that Sony's PS VR2 PC adapter will effectively serve as an HDMI, USB and power splitter. Unfortunately, the NRRA does not provide any other meaningful details, except that it certified the accessory over two months ago.
