Samsung has just announced the next major update for the Galaxy Watch, called One UI 6 Watch. This operating system update will be available for all models from the Galaxy Watch 4 up to the current Galaxy Watch6 (approx. 248 euros on Amazon). The first beta version will be released in June, but initially only in South Korea and the USA; the final version of One UI 6 Watch will be released in the second half of 2024.
The highlight of the update is new AI features - how could it be otherwise in 2024? By combining artificial intelligence and the data stored in Samsung Health, One UI 6 Watch can calculate a so-called Energy Score, a rating from 0 to 100 points, which assesses how rested a user is based on sleep quality, the previous day's activities, heart rate, and stress tracking.
Wellness tips are designed to help users achieve their personal goals, regardless of whether they want to tackle more strenuous workouts or reduce their body fat percentage. Sleep tracking will use new AI algorithms to deliver more accurate results and collect new data points, including movement, heart rate, and breathing rate during sleep.
The heart rate zones during running can be analyzed in One UI 6 Watch according to the aerobic and anaerobic threshold, while cyclists will receive a personalized power index calculated by an AI after the first ten minutes of a workout thanks to a feature called "Functional Threshold Power (FTP)". One UI 6 Watch should be based on Google Wear OS 5 although Samsung has not yet officially confirmed the use of the new Wear OS version.
