Google releases new affordable Fitbit smartwatch with LTE modem
Google has released a new Fitbit wearable, just over a month after the company rolled out a new update aimed at improving sleep tracking for its existing product stack. While Fitbit has called the new wearable the Ace LTE, it more closely resembles the design of the Versa 4 (curr. $193 on Amazon) than the Ace 3. As such, the Fitbit Ace LTE has a squircle-shaped display, within which sits an OLED display that has a 333 PPI.
Although Google protects the display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3, the Ace LTE itself has a plastic housing. Alternatively, the smartwatch can be accessorised with a rubber bumper for a more rugged appearance. In short, Google has designed the Ace LTE with children and young adults in mind. With that being said, the smartwatch has lost the front-facing camera that was present in early prototypes.

Still, the Ace LTE contains built-in GPS and LTE, as well as a 328 mAh battery that is rated for over 16 hours of battery life per charge. Moreover, the smartwatch is water resistant to 50 metres and contains Fitbit Arcade, a tool that attempts to gamify fitness with activity-linked games that will refresh every few months. For reference, the Ace LTE will fit wrists measuring between 120 mm and 200 mm in circumference while only weighing 28 g.
Additionally, the smartwatch measures 41.04 x 44.89 x 13.35 mm with Mild Pebble and Spicy Pebble colour options. The Fitbit Ace LTE is orderable now for $229.95 in the US and will begin shipping on June 5. Please note that use of the Fitbit Arcade and LTE modem requires a paid Fitbit Ace Pass subscription, which costs $9.99 per month or $119.99 annually; two years of Preferred Care coverage is available for $29 too, as are spare bands for $34.99 each.
