FCC listing reveals Samsung Galaxy Ring for larger fingers will have better battery life
The Samsung Galaxy Ring is pretty much over the horizon, with the launch expected at the second major Unpacked event of this year. This smart ring was first teased by the company at the January Unpacked event and was later shown off at the MWC 2024, where we got a better look at the wearable.
However, a good number of details were yet to be revealed by the company, and most of them were just revealed by the FCC listing. As per the FCC database, there will be nine different Galaxy Ring models, which matches what Samsung said at the MWC 2024 event. These models are basically different sizes of this smart wearable, which the company said will start from ring sizes 5 to 13.
What’s interesting about the different sizes of the smart ring is that the battery capacity won’t be the same for all. As per the FCC listing, the Galaxy Ring from sizes 5 to 7 will come with a 17 mAh battery, sizes 8 to 11 will have 18.5 mAh, while sizes 12 and 13 are shown to come with a 22.5 mAh battery.
Samsung previously confirmed that the runtime on a single charge will be between five to nine days, and it seems the larger sizes will enjoy a better battery life. Even so, the lower five days of claimed battery life matches what Oura offers with its Ring Gen 3 (available on Amazon). As for the model numbers and their designated sizes, they are as follows:
- SM-Q505: Size 5
- SM-Q506: Size 6
- SM-Q507: Size 7
- SM-Q508: Size 8
- SM-Q509: Size 9
- SM-Q500: Size 10
- SM-Q501: Size 11
- SM-Q502: Size 12
- SM-Q503: Size 13
Besides that, the FCC documents revealed that the Samsung Galaxy Ring will have Bluetooth LE connectivity, which was pretty much expected. Also, while the listing shows the smart ring in black, the company showed it off in two more colors at MWC: gold and silver.
Another thing uncovered from the FCC filing is the bottom schematic of the charging cradle, which will recharge the smart ring. It’s unclear whether different Galaxy Ring sizes will come with a different cradle.
