With Phil Spencer pledging support for the Switch 2, it seems inevitable that Xbox games will arrive on the console. However, since his January comments, there hasn't been confirmation of any Switch 2 ports. According to The Verge Senior Editor Tom Warren, that may not be the case much longer. After discussing the Hellblade 2 PS5 release, Warren hinted that news about Microsoft's presence on the Nintendo handheld could surface soon.
Microsoft Gaming's CEO revealed his intentions toward the Switch 2 in an early 2025 interview. Speaking on the Gamertag Radio podcast, Spencer said: "Really looking forward to supporting them with the games that we have. I just think they’re such an important part of this industry". Months later, the list of upcoming Switch 2 games is mostly void of Xbox ports. Even so, it's filled with third-party launch titles, led by Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition.
Warren's article has reignited speculation about what Xbox games will come to Nintendo's new handheld. Sea of Thieves and Forza Motorsport are already on the PS5 and may be destined for other platforms. Blizzard seems receptive to bringing its action-RPG Diablo 4 to the Switch 2. Bethesda projects like Oblivion Remastered, Starfield, and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle are also potential Switch 2 games.
Upgraded Switch 2 specs have opened the door for more demanding titles. The console houses an Nvidia Tegra T239 chip, which should provide noticeable performance boosts despite its age. More memory and support for faster storage are also inviting to many big-budget Microsoft games.
The other question is how long before Xbox ports are ready for Nintendo's handheld. Warren suggested that official announcements may be imminent. June will host several major events, including the Xbox Games Showcase and the Summer Game Fest. On any of these occasions, Microsoft could elaborate on what its cross-platform strategy means for the Switch 2.
