The Nintendo Switch 2 will start shipping on June 5. Those who have already pre-ordered the console may also need an additional memory card, as some games for the new console require over 50 GB of storage, meaning that the console's internal storage may be full after installing just four games.
Nintendo's own games typically take up little space, and the Nintendo Switch 2 is no exception. Mario Kart World occupies 23.4 GB, more than three times as much as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Donkey Kong Bananza takes up 10 GB. The upgrades for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom increase the storage requirements by 9.8 GB and 3.6 GB, respectively, while the upgrade for Kirby and the Forgotten Land increases the storage requirements to 16.7 GB, almost tripling the amount.
Some third-party games have very large storage requirements. Split Fiction, for example, requires 73 GB on the Nintendo Switch 2, making it only around 10% smaller than on other consoles. Cyberpunk 2077 and Hitman World of Assassination each come in at 59 GB, Yakuza 0 at 53.7 GB. Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma shows just how big the differences can be, as the title takes up 5.8 GB and 18.1 GB on the first and second generation Switch, respectively.
